Barry's Home-Made Obs

A dome made of plywood, coated in fibreglass, which sits on a round, wood framed and colorbond-clad wall. Think lots on your plans and materials. Draw and sketch lots. Make notes. Think of alternatives. There are many ways to do the same thing. I had a couple of years to think about the best way to tackle this but it was a good delay, because I may have settled for something inferior.

Margaret from Armidale

I'm now using my home-made observatory. We have at least two in Armidale, and you might like information on them. Mine's a minimal 2m sq one with slide off roof, just right for a 70 year old to cope with and pop out for quick viewing. the other, by a younger and much taller individual was from a 3m sq pt it together aluminium shed, and his roof is in two sections which are opened by leverage.

Eric from Armidale

Margaret's cost twice as much as Eric's as I did not use a prefab aluminium shed, and I got the professional handymen to do it.  Mine had to blend with the house; Eric's didn't, being much further from his house.  Mine's so handy - a matter of a couple of minutes to set up or put away door to door
